CALCUTTA TOURNAMENT BENEFITS FSR
FOR THE 6TH YEAR
 Chicago, IL (10 September 2011)
The Calcutta is an annual tennis tournament held at the Saddle and
Cycle Club of Chicago. The event raises funds to benefit local
charities, and for the sixth year, organizer Ray Smith (pictured at
far right with FSR Co-Founders, President Andrea Wilson and
Treasurer Reading Wilson) generously selected the Foundation for
Sarcoidosis Research as one of the organizations to receive funds.
Over the last several
years, the Calcutta has raised more than $15,000 to support FSR’s
research and education programs. In accepting the check on behalf
of FSR, President Andrea Wilson thanked Ray for his ongoing support
and acknowledged how this contribution allows the Foundation to
continue important work to improve care for patients and to search
for a cure. FSR has recently announced plans to fund another
research grant in 2011-2012. In addition, the Foundation is in the
process of creating a new educational booklet, Sarcoidosis and
the Eye, and is planning a patient education conference this
fall in New York City.
Sarcoidosis
(pronounced SAR-COY-DO-SIS) is an inflammatory disease that can
affect almost any organ in the body. It causes heightened immunity
which means that a person's immune system, which normally protects
the body from infection and disease, overreacts, resulting in damage
to the body's own tissues. Sarcoidosis is often serious and can even
be life-threatening, especially if you do not know you have it. The
cause remains unknown and there is no cure. For more information about sarcoidosis, please visit the Foundation for
Sarcoidosis website at
