FSR RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATION FROM 1st ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Chicago, IL (1 November 2011) The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) applauds the efforts of Chad Weisgerber’s friends and family who raised $13,104.57 in his honor to support FSR. The first annual KISS charity golf tournament was held on Sunday, September 18th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and was attended by 120 of Chad’s friends and family (pictured at right.)

After years of struggling with respiratory issues, Chad Weisgerber was diagnosed with pulmonary sarcoidosis in 2008. In December of 2010 Chad was diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis which has affected his motor skills and verbal skills. Although Chad has a Masters Degree in teaching, a BSC and a Professional Project Management certificate, he is no longer able to continue working with EllisDon Corporation, a top rated company in Canada. His positive attitude is an inspiration to all that know him, and they have honored him with their generosity to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.

The generosity of the donors who support events like the KISS charity golf tournament and the hard work and dedication of the event organizers allow the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research to award research grants and to provide education to thousands of sarcoidosis patients nationwide and around the world. Golf tournaments are especially popular for supporters interested in raising funds for the Foundation. The Golf in the Darc for Sarc glo-ball golf tournament, held each year in Denver, Colorado, has raised more than $50,000 since its inception, and the Philip L. Orkin Memorial Golf Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in its first year as a benefit event generated nearly $4,000. The Foundation is honored to receive the support of so many. For more information about planning an event to support the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, please contact Julie Catalano (312.341.0500 or julie@stopsarcoidosis.org.)

FSR has recently announced its most recent grant recipient, Nabeel Hamzeh, MD from National Jewish Health in Colorado. In addition, the Foundation is in the process of creating a new educational booklet, Sarcoidosis and the Eye, and is planning a patient education conference to be held November 5, 2011 in New York City.

About Sarcoidosis and FSR
Sarcoidosis (pronounced SAR-COY-DO-SIS) is an inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ in the body. It causes heightened immunity which means that a person's immune system, which normally protects the body from infection and disease, overreacts, resulting in damage to the body's own tissues. Sarcoidosis is often serious and can even be life-threatening, especially if you do not know you have it. The cause remains unknown and there is no cure.

The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to improving care for patients and to finding a cure for this disease. Since 2000, FSR has funded numerous domestic and international research efforts and has provided resources to thousands of patients, their families and their physicians.
