Gene was a rather healthy man, although seeing a cardiologist for checkups but was not diagnosed with cardiac sarcoidosis until autopsy. This is why his wife Liza and daughter Bri have started the inaugural golf event, as Gene was an avid golfer, raise funds and awareness for sarcoidosis.
