Join us in sunny Phoenix, Arizona for our first patient conference of 2017! Presented by the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research and the University of Arizona, this conference will give you the opportunity to learn from internationally recognized physicians about sarcoidosis, treatment options, and the latest advancements in research. You will gain the knowledge and tools you need to better communicate with your physicians, build a treatment plan that works for you, and accelerate research so together we can find a cure for sarcoidosis!

Presenters will include:

Jennifer Cook, MD
University of Arizona – Tucson

Dr. Cook specializes in cardiovascular disease with an interest in advanced heart failure and transplantation. Her clinical research interests include ventricular assist devices, as well as drug therapies for heart failure. She is a fellow of the American Heart Association, an associate professor in the UA College of Medicine Division of Cardiology, and additionally serves as the director of Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Cardiac Transplantation at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.

Joe G.N. “Skip” Garcia, MD
University of Arizona – Tucson
Dr. Garcia is internationally recognized for his genetic-based research on lung disease and for development of novel therapies for critically ill patients with acute inflammatory lung disease. He has nearly 400 peer-reviewed publications. He has an expansive portfolio of NIH-sponsored research and continues to direct large federally funded programs.The Garcia laboratory is a state of the art pulmonary research lab focusing on the genetics and proteomics of lung biology and disease.

Holli Horak, MD
University of Arizona – Tucson
Dr. Horak is a neuromuscular specialist with board certification in electrophysiology. Her clinical work involves caring for patients with ALS, muscular dystrophy, autoimmune neuropathies and myasthenia gravis. She is involved in clinical research involving muscular dystrophy epidemiology. In addition, she is the director of the Neurophysiology Fellowship and teaches residents and fellows in EMG/NCS.

Ken Knox, MD
University of Arizona – Tucson
Dr. Knox is known nationally for his research and clinical expertise in sarcoidosis, fungal diagnostics, and immunologic lung disease. His nationally funded research utilizes bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL, a “lung wash” done through an endoscope) to study the mucosal lymphocyte response to a variety of infectious and inflammatory diseases including the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), endemic fungal pathogens and rheumatologic lung disease. Dr. Knox joined the UA College of Medicine in 2008.
