The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research is committed to fostering the growth of medical professionals who are interested in research and clinical work related to sarcoidosis, inflammatory diseases, and interstitial lung disease. The six recipients of our ATS PAR Travel Scholarships this year received assistance for travel expenses to the American Thoracic Society’s 2017 International Conference held in Washington D.C. Some of these recipients include:

Caroline E. Broos, MD – Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Dr. Broos (left) receiving an previous award from FSR

This is not FSR’s first time presenting Dr. Broos with an award. She has shown continued promise as a young researcher working in the field of sarcoidosis. This is evident from her numerous published works over the past several years. Her research topics over the past few years have included the role of T cell subsets in the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis as well as efforts to optimize first-line prednisone therapy and reduce the potential side effects.

Milica Vukmirovic, PhD – The Kaminski Lab, Yale School of Medicine

Dr. Vukmirovic received her PhD from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She is now an Associate Research Scientist at the Yale School of Medicine, leading translational research projects to identify transcriptomic profiles of lung diseases including sarcoidosis. She also manages the platform for the GRADS study, a multi-center study on genomic research in Alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency and sarcoidosis. The GRADS study includes many members from FSR’s Scientific Advisory Board. To learn more about GRADS, visit http://www.gradslung.org
