For our final week we honor Emily Pomkala. We could not think of a better person to end our month with because of her continuous work of improving the health of herself and others.

Emily was first diagnosed in 2007, she suffers from lymphatic and pulmonary sarcoidosis. She thought that at the age of 24 she would be bed ridden. With only having enough energy for 2-3 hours a day she thought her life was over. Yet she took her illness as an opportunity to change her life. Emily enrolled herself in online classes. She took one class at a time and it gave her the strength to see beyond just taking twelve different types of medications and  going to the doctor, it validated her life. After six years she had a Masters of Science in Nutrition.

She lives by an inspiring message of; “We so often see our disease and management as one BIG problem to solve… but if we take it one day at a time, heck, some days one hour at a time. We can persist and proceed beyond just being a “diagnosis.” We are so much more than a disease label.

This message has propelled her to create Emspiration Fitness. Which is a personal training company that treats and motivates fellow sarcoidosis patients through online workouts, recipes, and EMspiration! You can learn more about her company by clicking here!
