Sarcoidosis is a complex disease and finding an accessible expert isn’t always easy. Understanding sarcoidosis and its patterns is paramount to being a good self -advocate with your providers. Knowing when and how to speak with your provider to establish a relationship is integral to ongoing management of this chronic disease. This session will cover:
- Establishing a relationship with your provider
- Getting the most out of your provider appointments
- Communicating the impact of sarcoidosis and related symptoms

About the expert:
Lesley Ann Saketkoo, MD, MPH is a researcher, educator and clinician in scleroderma/systemic sclerosis, sarcoidosis, myositis, pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung diseases. She is the Director and founder of the New Orleans Scleroderma and Sarcoidosis Patient Care and Research Center.
Dr. Saketkoo established the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic Program at LSU and the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic Programs at LSU, which became the multi-center collaborative Comprehensive Pulmonary Hypertension Center (CPHC) and Interstitial Lung Disease Programs at University Medical Center. The centers are recognized by the European Scleroderma Trials and Research Group (EUSTAR), the Scleroderma Foundation, and the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium (SCTC), World Association of Sarcoidosis and Other Granulomatous Disorders (WASOG), Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).
In collaboration with Family First Medical along with these entities the New Orleans Post-COVID care clinic is being established for long and multi-system post-COVID syndrome.
Beyond clinical trials and registries, her research work is deeply rooted in patient priorities, expertise and perceptions; exercise as disease-modifying treatment in the above conditions as well as embodiment e.g. mindfulness, physical activity, targeted anatomical strategies such as dance and yoga to improve health outcomes in cardiopulmonary conditions.
