FSR’s Partnership with Walgreens

Raising Awareness for Sarcoidosis in April and Spring Vaccines

The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) is thrilled to share that Walgreens is once again joining forces with FSR to help raise awareness for sarcoidosis and educate community members about spring vaccines.

To help raise awareness during April’s Sarcoidosis Awareness Month, from April 15th – 30th, all Walgreens stores in Alabama will be participating by sharing informational resources about sarcoidosis with their customers. Visitors to the Alabama Walgreens stores will also learn about the disease and how sarcoidosis impacts those in their community through patient profiles displayed at the registers.

Additionally, the Walgreens customers visiting the Alabama stores will be able to support FSR’s mission by donating in $1, $5, and $10 increments at checkout registers! Proceeds raised will support FSR’s mission to accelerate sarcoidosis research and patient support initiatives.

What is Sarcoidosis?

Sarcoidosis (pronounced SAR-COY-DOE-SIS) is a rare inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of granulomas—tiny clumps of inflammatory cells—in one or more organs of the body. When the immune system goes into overdrive and too many of these clumps form, they can interfere with an organ’s structure and function. When left unchecked, chronic inflammation can lead to fibrosis, which is the permanent scarring of organ tissue. This disorder affects the lungs in approximately 90% of cases, but it can affect almost any organ in the body. Despite increasing advances in research, sarcoidosis remains difficult to diagnose with limited treatment options and no known cure.

You can learn more about sarcoidosis symptoms, diagnosis, and how it impacts different organs by visiting the hyperlinked pages above.

Spring Vaccines

Did you know learning about spring vaccines is just as important as in the fall and winter?

Those living with pulmonary sarcoidosis are at increased risk for RSV and Pneumonia. Spring is the perfect time to talk to your doctor and pharmacist about vaccinations for RSV and Pneumonia.

“FSR is proud to partner with Walgreens again this year and for their dedication to raising awareness for sarcoidosis especially during April’s Sarcoidosis Awareness month. FSR is grateful to all the stores in Alabama helping those in their communities learn more about sarcoidosis and the importance of vaccinations for those impacted by chronic heart and lung diseases like sarcoidosis.”
